2048

Merge tiles to reach 2048.

How to Play

  • Use arrow keys (Up, Down, Left, Right) or swipe on your screen to move all tiles.
  • When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one, and your score increases.
  • A new tile (either 2 or 4) will appear in a random empty spot after each move.
  • The game ends when the board is full and no more moves are possible. Reach the 2048 tile to win!

2048 is the number puzzle game played on a 4ร—4 board where you merge two tiles of the same value into one of double the value, with the ultimate goal of building a 2048 tile. Created in just a few days by Italian developer Gabriele Cirulli in 2014, it exploded across mobile and web to become a modern classic โ€” a rare puzzle whose single rule unlocks endless depth.

Controls are four swipes or four arrow keys, that's it. Every input slides every tile on the board in the chosen direction simultaneously. When two tiles of the same number collide during the slide, they fuse into one tile with double the value and that value is added to your score. At the end of every turn a fresh 2 or 4 tile spawns in a random empty cell, and once the board fills up with no possible merges, the game ends.

The single most important rule for high scores is "lock your biggest tile in one corner." Pick a corner (most players prefer bottom-right or bottom-left), keep your largest number there, and avoid any swipe that could displace it. Arrange the row adjacent to that corner in descending order, and smaller numbers will naturally cascade and get absorbed into the chain. Use the upward swipe sparingly โ€” the moment your corner anchor breaks is the moment the run unravels.

The score accumulates by summing every merged tile value, so each new doubling delivers exponentially more points in a single move. Reaching 2048 is the headline goal; from there, 4096, 8192, and 16384 are the territory of the truly obsessed. A run lasts 10 to 30 minutes and feeds the classic "one more game" loop after every wipe.

2048 rewards focused minutes more than micro-breaks โ€” lunch time, the gap between meetings, an evening wind-down. Share your final score as a challenge link and compare who built the bigger tile under identical rules, or screenshot a 4096 completion as a flex of its own. For the cleanest fusion of numerical elegance and strategic depth, OgleOgle 2048 is the modern puzzle to beat.
