Fruit Flash

Fruit Flash is the serial-recall game where a sequence of fruits flashes quickly on screen in order, and after they vanish you must tap them back in the exact same order. It can be thought of as a visual, fruit-themed variant of the Corsi block-tapping test that cognitive psychology uses to measure serial short-term memory — slightly tougher than simple digit recall because you have to hold both "items" and "order" at once.

Each round flashes a brief sequence of fruits — apple, banana, grape, strawberry, etc. — in order on the screen. When the sequence ends, an input pad appears and you must tap the fruits in the same order you saw them. Get it perfectly right and the next round adds one more fruit and the flash speed increases. Miss the order on a single fruit and the previous round's length becomes your final score.

The average human serial-recall span is 4–7 items — usually one or two shorter than simple digit recall (7±2), because visual items are harder to convert into a phonological code. The key technique is "verbalize each item." The instant you see an apple, mentally say "apple" — this converts visual memory into phonological short-term memory, which has longer retention and lets you remember 2–3 more items in sequence.

Another proven technique is "narrative encoding." Instead of memorizing apple → banana → grape as a flat list, chain them into a tiny story like "I held an apple, walked over a banana, and met a grape." This single trick lets people jump from 3–4 items to 10. It's the simplest form of the memory-palace technique used by memory champions, and measuring daily lets you literally watch your serial-recall span improve on a chart over weeks.

Fits any one-to-two-minute pocket of time. Share your final sequence length as a challenge link to compare under identical rules with friends — Fruit Flash trains a stricter form of memory than plain digit-recall (visual items plus order), which makes the score harder-won and more satisfying.
